From digital note-taking to cloud-based project management, I keep things efficient and paper-light.

At Rae Narraway Design, creativity and sustainability go hand in hand. I run a playful, people-centered design studio that believes good design can also do good for the planet. Whether I’m crafting a brand identity or putting together a bold packaging concept, I’m always thinking about how my work—and my process—can have a lighter footprint.

Why Sustainability Matters in Design

Graphic design might seem pretty low-impact at first glance—after all, it’s mostly pixels, right? But everything from the paper used in print jobs to the power that fuels our digital spaces adds up. As a designer, I have a real opportunity (and responsibility) to make choices that are better for the environment.

What I’m Doing Differently

At Rae Narraway Design, sustainability is baked into everything I do—both in the work I create for clients and in the way I run my studio. Here are a few of the ways I’m making greener choices every day:

In My Design Work:

  • Eco-Friendly Print: When print is needed, I go for recycled and FSC-certified paper, low-waste print layouts, and eco-conscious inks like soy or vegetable-based options.

  • Digital-First Mindset: Whenever possible, I encourage digital formats over print—not only to save resources, but to help clients connect in more dynamic, accessible ways.

  • Reusable Design Systems: I design smart, building systems and templates that reduce duplication and can be used again and again, saving time and materials.

Inside My Studio:

  • Remote-First Setup: I work from home, which means fewer car rides and less energy used compared to a traditional office setup.

  • Low-Waste Workflow: From digital note-taking to cloud-based project management, I keep things efficient and paper-light.

  • Energy-Efficient Tech: I choose tools and equipment that are built to last and run efficiently, and I responsibly recycle any old gear when it’s time to upgrade.

  • Conscious Consumption: I keep my purchases minimal and intentional—whether it’s office supplies or the solar power that recharges my devices.

Working With Purpose-Led Brands

I’m proud to collaborate with clients who are just as values-driven as I am. Many of the businesses I work with are B Corps or eco-focused brands that put people and the planet first. These partnerships feel more like collaborations—we’re aligned on what matters, and together we create design work that not only looks great, but also supports bigger goals around sustainability, impact, and ethical growth.

Always Learning, Always Improving

I’m not perfect (who is?), but I’m always learning and looking for ways to do better. Sustainability isn’t a one-time box to check—it’s part of how I think about design, business, and the future I want to help shape.

If you’re a brand looking to go greener or you’re curious about what sustainable design looks like in action, I’d love to chat.
